FAQ – Sotojets

1. Do I need a license or qualification to rent a jet ski in Sotogrande? No, you do not need any type of license, permit, or prior qualification. Before entering the water, our certified professional instructors will give you a basic technical briefing on safety and handling. All of our Yamaha jet skis are automatic and highly stable, designed for you to enjoy with total safety from the very first minute.

2. What is the minimum age to drive a jet ski with Sotojets? The minimum age to drive a jet ski on our routes is 18 years old (or 16 years old with signed authorization from parents or legal guardians). To go as a passenger on board, the recommended minimum age is 8 years old, provided they are accompanied by an adult.

3. Where are the Sotojets facilities located and how do I get there? Our main nautical base is located in the Port of Sotogrande (San Roque, Cádiz). Getting here is very easy: if you are driving on the Mediterranean Highway (A-7), take exit 130 towards Sotogrande and follow the signs to the marina. You will find us right in the pontoons area for nautical activities.

4. What is included in the price of the activity and what should I bring? The price includes the use of a latest-generation Yamaha jet ski, a premium approved life jacket, the technical safety briefing with a certified guide, and compulsory civil liability and accident insurance. You only need to bring a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, and plenty of desire for adrenaline. We have secure lockers at our offices to store your personal belongings.

5. Is it safe to drive a jet ski if I don’t know how to swim? The use of a premium approved life jacket is mandatory for all participants (both drivers and passengers) throughout the entire activity. In addition, you will be supervised at all times by our monitors and certified instructors in the water, making the activity completely safe.

6. How many people can go on the same jet ski? Our latest-generation Yamaha jet skis are two-seaters. This means a maximum of 2 people can go per jet ski (driver and passenger). You can reserve the jet ski for yourself or share the experience with whomever you want for the same rental price.

7. Do I need to leave a deposit or bond when renting? No, at Sotojets we do not require any deposit or bond money before carrying out the activity on our guided tours and supervised rental experiences. You only need to make your reservation, show up at our base, and enjoy the experience.

8. What is the difference between the Premium Experience and the Straits Safari? The Premium Experience (1h / 1.5h) is focused on making the most of the speed, making sharp turns, and jumping waves at your own pace in our navigation area. The Straits Safari (2h) is a long-distance guided route that takes you to explore the Andalusian coastline towards the cliffs of La Alcaidesa, with spectacular views of the Rock of Gibraltar.

9. How far in advance should I arrive at the Sotojets base? We recommend arriving at our offices in the Port of Sotogrande at least 15 to 20 minutes before your reserved time. This allows us to manage your reservation without rushing, hand out the safety equipment, and conduct the formative technical briefing before entering the water at the exact time.

10. What happens if the weather is bad on the day of my reservation? Safety is our top priority. If maritime or weather conditions are not suitable for navigation, we will contact you to reschedule the activity. If you cannot do it at another time due to your travel itinerary, we will offer you a full refund of your money.
